Most of the time you'll find me reading YA or adult historical or paranormal romance what can I say I'm a somewhat "typical" girl. But I'm also a Lover of a good horror story once in awhile (I am a huge fan of Stephen King).

I was asked to read The Spirit Box as part of a review challenge. I had been hearing such good things about the book that I jumped at the chance to read and review it.
This book was terrific. It had every element for a good suspense novel. and I was surprised at how it all came together.

JH Glaze put alot of work in to his character Walt and he was such a typical schmuck that you almost feel sorry for the poor bastard then he turns around and does something that make you say "what are you thinking?"

The other main character in this book is detective John Hazard and although I didn't get a chance to get a really good feel for the man he does bring the story full circle. And he is a very big part of the book series as a whole.

It's such an original story that it's hard to say much without giving something away. I enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to anyone looking to delve into a strange and twisted story.

The next book in the series:

John Hazard is back on the trail of danger! After a life-altering event, he has resigned from the police department in small town America and enrolled in a Paranormal Investigation course at Bay University, a community college in San Francisco.

For their final grade, the class ventures to the Pacific NorthWest to film a documentary on a mysterious phenomenon they call “The NorthWest Triangle,” where scores of small aircraft and people have gone missing without a trace.

Professor Macy Renner believes the answer lies in an unsolved mystery from her own past and is determined to discover it, no matter the cost.

Emily Sparks has her own reasons for going, and it’s not just about the money. She is about to jump from the frying pan into the fire as she signs on for a journey that will transport her into the veritable jaws of hell.

Can a rag-tag team of misfits succeed in uncovering the source of the supernatural anomaly, or will the terror that lies in wait consume them in the process?

Come along on an adventure where you will learn that you don’t have to outrun the creatures behind you. You only have to run faster than the person beside you!

Forbidden by: Syrie James and Ryan James

She should not exist.

He should not love her.

Claire Brennan has been attending Emerson Academy for two years now (the longest she and her mom have remained anywhere) and she's desperate to stay put for the rest of high school. So there's no way she's going to tell her mom about the psychic visions she's been having or the creepy warnings that she's in danger.
Alec MacKenzie is fed up with his duties to watch and, when necessary, eliminate the descendants of his angelic forefathers. He chose Emerson as the ideal hiding place where he could be normal for once. He hadn't factored Claire into his plans. . . .
Their love is forbidden, going against everything Alec has been taught to believe. But when the reason behind Claire's unusual powers is revealed and the threat to her life becomes clear, how far will Alec go to protect her?

My review:

First I want to say that I love the cover of this book very simple but really pretty. I won this book a couple of weeks ago from the Paranormal Book Club (thanks again ladies <3) and was very excited when it came in the mail.

I love Syrie she's an awesome writer. I own and have read The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen and The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte and fell I love with both books so I couldn't wait to read Forbidden.

I think it is so awesome for that this book was written by a mother/son duo. And believe me they make a great duo!

Forbidden is a story about Claire (a nephilim) trying to figure out who she is in life and Alec (a grigori)  trying to run from his.

I really enjoyed their relationship and really hope for many more books to watch it grow and evolve. Of course their love is forbidden so there are lots of obstacles they have to overcome if they can overcome them at all. But anything worth having is worth fighting for and Claire and Alec find that that's exactly what they may have to spend their lives doing for their love.

Forbidden had me from the beginning and I found it very hard to put down. I enjoyed all of the characters, the storyline and the flow of the book as a whole. An amazing and easy read for teens and adults alike.

My review:

I've had this book on my kindle tbr list for awhile now so I finally decided to give it a read. I is not the YA paranormal romance that I thought it was. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone younger than 18yrs. I is full of sex and drugs along with alot of immorality and manipulative mean girls. I have read other reviews that compare this book to Carrie and I have to say that I agree with that in some ways. Jenny lives her life in her own solitude unable to have any kind of relationship with normal people. Until she realizes Seth can give her something she's never thought possible a friendship and possibly love.
It was a really good  read and I enjoyed  it all the way through. I starts off as a very sad story. Jenny is such a sweet girl with such a horrible gift that you can't help feeling so bad for her. And of course there's always that one mean girl who makes it their mission in life to never let you have any kind of happiness. And when Jenny finally does find that happiness there's always something or someone trying to muck it up. when Jenny gets her "Carrie" moment and you think this book is going to end in a very tragic way something happens and it was like "Wow okay didn't see that coming".
I am really looking forward to reading the other books in the series. If your looking for a typical  paranormal romance than this book is not for you but if your looking for something different than you should check it out. This is a free kindle read and can be found on amazon.com.

It started with a story rolling around in her head which refused to be ignored. Desperate to turn her mind to other things, Liz sat down, hoping to exorcise the ‘demon’, and wrote her first novel. My review:

This is definitely an ADULT READ.

Persuading Prudence isn't a very long book (196 pages) but it is a very good book. And I just have to say the cover is gorgeous. As soon as I seen the cover I wanted it. Then I read the synopsis and new I had to have it.

When I first started reading this book it felt like a guilty pleasure. In the beginning it is very erotic but as I continued to read it became very sweet and romantic. Liz sets up her scenes very well. It was easy for me to slip back into time and picture the characters just as she's described.

I really enjoy this time period when men were real gentlemen and women were proper. But I really love when the main female character is set apart from the caddishness of high society in a time when everyone put on a false smile and hid in corners gossiping. A woman who is not concerned with how to procure a marriage to raise her self in status and wealth. Pru is just that. She is a very smart and strong women who is not easily swayed by a man or her own emotions. She is witty, headstrong and passionate and always tries to keep a clear head. I really enjoyed taking a little time out from my normal genre to read this book. It was a very light-hearted read for the most part. I do wish it had been longer I would have liked to have seen where the story could have gone.

This is an A+  Steamy Historical Romance that i would recommend to anyone 18+ years who wants to read a fun, very sexy romantic read.

My review:
Crystal writes in the Children's Books, Young Adult, and Religion & Spirituality genres. This isn't my "usual" genre to read but her book Saving Bobby is on my Kindle TBR list so when Crystal got a hold of me to read and review this book I gladly jumped at the chance. God Blessed the Broken Road Series are  short books (print length is 106 pages). While reading it it seems to be much longer though.
So much happens in this book about a brother and sister on a road trip together. Mariza is David's older sister. For brother and sister they are very close friends. She is taking this road trip to bring him out of a depression and back to his faith. Until tragedy strikes on there trip.
This book reads like a true story. A very sad true story. But in the end it was Mariza who helped David move on and start to live again knowing there was a purpose to his life. This is a very inspirational book for for teens and adults alike. A very enjoyable read.

*ARC REVIEW*

Reign of Blood by Alexia Purdy

"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. I am April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids over run my world, once vibrant with life, now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive, I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. I'm just hoping to make it to the next sunrise..."

In the post-apocalyptic world, after a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth’s population, leaving few humans, feral vampires and a hybrid type of vampire that defies all definitions of what being human and what being vampire is. April is a seventeen year old girl who lives in this world one year after the event. She has become a ferocious vampire hunter and killer and comes upon these hybrid vampires one day in search of her mother and younger brother. Unsure who she can trust, she finds that her new ideals of the world are not as black and white as she thought. Bending the rules to find her family will either save them all or destroy everything.”

About the author:

My review:

If you look though my earlier posts you'll find my review of Ever Shade and you'll see how much I loved it! When I was given the opportunity to read an ARC copy of Reign of Blood I jumped on it. I am so glad that I did.
The world has been hit with an apocalyptic viral epidemic leaving everyone in the world a savage (almost zombie like) vampire or a hybrid. April, her mother and her brother are the only humans left, and after her family is taken she is left alone. April lives her life for two reasons to stay alive and to find her family. I felt so horribly sad for April. To know that a) her family is most likely long gone or worse yet already dead. b) she was probably the last true human on earth and c) she'd have to live everyday of her life just trying to survive. How terrible to go from being a teenage girl who's only concerns in life are boys, homework, and the mall to worrying about becoming a monsters meal every time you step out side. I can say that I do envy her for her strength and will to survive even in the most dire of circumstances and I would not want to be on the receiving end of her wrath.
I love Alexia's work. She has such a great mind when creating characters and setting up scenes. Because April is alone for a few chapters I really got to know her as if she were a real person. I started to really see a clear picture of who she was inside and out. I loved the teenager she wished she could still be and the warrior that she has become. Her strength and will to survive is inspiring.
The action scenes in Reign of Blood really got my adrenalin pumping. I could see the fights in my head as if I were watching a movie (btw this would make a great movie!) . I love the contrast between the action and the still thoughtful moments of the book. I was so glad when April finds new people in her life especially Rye who helps her to start trusting and caring for people again. Rye is very much a gentlemen and a great counterpart to April.
Reign of Blood comes out April 29, 2012. I recommend that everyone hop on amazon (or where-ever you get your ebooks from) and pick this book up. I promise you'll LOVE it!

Here is a first paragraph of Reign of Blood (Alexia approved of course)

Never tease anything that wants to eat you. The ravenous eyes that bled death all around and peered from their windows, drooled at the sight of us. The buildings loomed above as we rushed through the concrete and asphalt, hurrying to beat the sun as it set. They lurked in every window, shrouded by shadow from the searing sun. The east sides of the buildings were crawling with vampires. They smirked and sneer their inhuman growls; hissing right at us as we jumped from sunbeam to sunbeam, racing to the awaiting van. Only the light kept them at bay. Only the light kept us from their sharp gripping fangs.

I know, I know hooked already.... So what are you waiting for?

Illumine by Alivia Anders:

For the past five months Essallie Hanley has been trying to forget about the frightening murder of her boyfriend. Haunted by vivid nightmares and hallucinations of the event she does anything she can to pretend she's like every other normal girl in High School.

Only Essallie is far from normal. Able to conjure blue fire and a shimmering silhouette of wings from her body, she seeks the only known solace left to her name; her first home in Belfast, Maine.

But she soon realizes that her return home is only the beginning of a long and twisted road taking her as far from her humanity as possible, with Kayden, the demon originally summoned to slaughter her, leading the way. Unable to touch her but oddly curious, he joins Essallie in her search to find out just what she is. My review:

I could not put this book down. From the first chapter I was sucked in and before I knew it I was done. Illumine is very well written and the characters have so many different layers to them that I was easily hooked. An easy read with a storyline that can go in so many different directions in future books.

I love Essallie and Kayden. Although their relationship is nowhere near love at first sight their characters are a very good contrast to each other. Alivia did such a good job building relationships between characters and creating a storyline that I felt had no faults except that I felt it could have been longer but that's just because I didn't want it to end.

This is a great book for anyone who likes to take an afternoon off and enjoy a good book. The second book in the series Obumbrate is due to come out on July 7th, 2012! I can't wait for it to come out.

Here is a sneak peak at the cover of Alivia's second book Obumbrate's which was reveled today on her website.

I don't know about the rest of you but just seeing the cover makes me want a closer look!!

  *ARC REVIEW*

The Immortal Rules by Julia Kagawa:
In a future world, Vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.
Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked—and given the ultimate choice. Die… or become one of the monsters.
Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.
Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend—a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.
But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what—and who—is worth dying for.
 about the author:

Julie Kagawa was born in Sacramento, California. Her love of reading led her to pen some very dark and gruesome stories, complete with colored illustrations, to shock her hapless teachers. The gory tales faded with time, but the passion for writing remained, long after she graduated and was supposed to get a real job. To pay the rent, Julie worked in different bookstores over the years, but discovered the managers frowned upon her reading the books she was supposed to be shelving.Julie now lives in Louisville, Kentucky with her husband, two obnoxious cats, one Australian Shepherd who is too smart for his own good, and the latest addition, a hyper-active Papillon puppy.

My review:

As someone who has read all of Julia's Iron Fey series (four full length novels and two novellas) I was doing a happy dance when I got the email from Netgalley saying I was approved for an ARC of The Immortal Rules. I love Julia's writing style and couldn't wait to read her take on vampires.
From the first chapter I knew it wasn't going to be your "typical" vampire book. I takes place more than sixty years after a plague swept over the world. A time when you either register as a blood donor and property of the vampire hierarchy and be nothing more than livestock or fend for yourself and take your chances. Allie was no-ones blood cow and took her chances as a scavenger even though that meant going outside the protective wall of city where the rabids ran wild (I see them as vampire zombies). When Allie gets attacked and has to choose between dying and becoming immortal she decides any life is better than dying.
In the Immortal Rules Allie faces many trials and tribulations as she tries to figure out who she is as an immortal and a monster as well as how to hang on to her humanity.
I love Julia's books and I think The Immortal Rules  might just be my favorite. She has a way of being very descriptive in a simplistic way. I never get bored reading about the world she creates and the characters she brings to life on the page. I also love this book because of the journey and direction she takes her characters in.
I can't wait to see what Julia has planned for Allie in the future. Her books have always been on the top of my pre-order list and I can't wait to have this book on my shelf right next to the rest of her amazing books.
The Immortal Rules comes out April 24, 2012 and and if you haven't done it already is available for pre-order on amazon.com.

 My review:

I came across the first two book of the Eternal Guardian series in a discount bin at Walmart. I had never heard of Elisabeth Naughton before but I'm always on the look out for a new series and new to me authors. When I spotted two books in the same series I picked them up. When I read the synopsis the story line intrigued me so I bought them. They sat in my to be read pile for awhile until one day I decided I wanted a different theme then the ones I was reading. I started and finished Marked and Entwined in a day and a half. As soon as I was done I ran out and bought Tempted. I pre-ordered Enraptured as soon as I was able to and waited very impatiently.
It was worth the wait this book is the best so far! Each book is from several points of view with the main focus on one of the eternal guardians and their love interest. The main characters in Enraptured is Orpheus and Skyla. He is an Argolean/Medean/daemon hybrid and newest member of the Argonauts and She is a siren and one of Zues' best assassins and both of them are stubborn smart-asses who think they're to dark and screwed up to be loved or to open up to love. Orpheus has been my favorite character from book one. I'm a sucker for the hero who thinks he's to damaged to actually be one. And to be honest I love the brooding sexy man who hides behind a bad attitude with sarcasm and smart-ass remarks and even though he goes though some changes in this book I think he will always be my favorite Argonaut. Skyla is new to this book but I easily like her from the beginning. She is a perfect match for Orpheus. I think there's are the hottest and most erotic scenes in the series. And I love there constant  battle to keep the upper hand on each other.
With all of that said I don't need to tell you that I love this book! This book brings out emotion like any great book should. There are very strong female and even "stronger" males in this book. Lots of anticipation and action all the way though. With any great novel there is what I like to call the "grab your tissues" part of the book. That's when the tears spill over and from then on forget it your a girl they aren't stopping until the end. Now without giving any spoilers away I'm going to tell you what the two sentences in the book were for me.....Relief and something else, something he couldn't define, seeped into Orpheus's chest. "Thank you Dimiourgos," he wispered......Yah when you get there bring out the box of tissue you'll need it! (Dimiourgos is the Argolean word for creator). And then this (a tasty teaser for all)  "I choose you Deamon or no deamon not. Argonaut or not. Zeus and Athena are wrong about you, Orpheus. You're not evil"..."How can you be sure?"...."Because I watched you with your brother. An evil soul can't love like that"..."I don't have a soul-"...Yes, you do. One that deserves so much more than you've been given."  Ok all I can say is WOW!!! I love this series and this book is my favorite of the four by far. I recommend that anyone who has not picked up these books and read them do so as soon as possible! If your a lover of books like I am then I promise you, you will love this series.

And watch for the fifth book in the series- Enslaved
expected publication: November first 2012
