*ARC REVIEW*

Reign of Blood by Alexia Purdy

"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. I am April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids over run my world, once vibrant with life, now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive, I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. I'm just hoping to make it to the next sunrise..."

In the post-apocalyptic world, after a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth’s population, leaving few humans, feral vampires and a hybrid type of vampire that defies all definitions of what being human and what being vampire is. April is a seventeen year old girl who lives in this world one year after the event. She has become a ferocious vampire hunter and killer and comes upon these hybrid vampires one day in search of her mother and younger brother. Unsure who she can trust, she finds that her new ideals of the world are not as black and white as she thought. Bending the rules to find her family will either save them all or destroy everything.”

About the author:

Living in Las Vegas, NV! Trying to fit in the writing in between taking care of my four kids and working as an RN. I read more than I write but enjoy both extremely. I can only write while listening to music and late at night works best. Paranormal Urban fantasy and Poetry are my specialties and extreme loves! My review:

If you look though my earlier posts you'll find my review of Ever Shade and you'll see how much I loved it! When I was given the opportunity to read an ARC copy of Reign of Blood I jumped on it. I am so glad that I did.
The world has been hit with an apocalyptic viral epidemic leaving everyone in the world a savage (almost zombie like) vampire or a hybrid. April, her mother and her brother are the only humans left, and after her family is taken she is left alone. April lives her life for two reasons to stay alive and to find her family. I felt so horribly sad for April. To know that a) her family is most likely long gone or worse yet already dead. b) she was probably the last true human on earth and c) she'd have to live everyday of her life just trying to survive. How terrible to go from being a teenage girl who's only concerns in life are boys, homework, and the mall to worrying about becoming a monsters meal every time you step out side. I can say that I do envy her for her strength and will to survive even in the most dire of circumstances and I would not want to be on the receiving end of her wrath.
I love Alexia's work. She has such a great mind when creating characters and setting up scenes. Because April is alone for a few chapters I really got to know her as if she were a real person. I started to really see a clear picture of who she was inside and out. I loved the teenager she wished she could still be and the warrior that she has become. Her strength and will to survive is inspiring.
The action scenes in Reign of Blood really got my adrenalin pumping. I could see the fights in my head as if I were watching a movie (btw this would make a great movie!) . I love the contrast between the action and the still thoughtful moments of the book. I was so glad when April finds new people in her life especially Rye who helps her to start trusting and caring for people again. Rye is very much a gentlemen and a great counterpart to April.
Reign of Blood comes out April 29, 2012. I recommend that everyone hop on amazon (or where-ever you get your ebooks from) and pick this book up. I promise you'll LOVE it!

Here is a first paragraph of Reign of Blood (Alexia approved of course)

Never tease anything that wants to eat you. The ravenous eyes that bled death all around and peered from their windows, drooled at the sight of us. The buildings loomed above as we rushed through the concrete and asphalt, hurrying to beat the sun as it set. They lurked in every window, shrouded by shadow from the searing sun. The east sides of the buildings were crawling with vampires. They smirked and sneer their inhuman growls; hissing right at us as we jumped from sunbeam to sunbeam, racing to the awaiting van. Only the light kept them at bay. Only the light kept us from their sharp gripping fangs.

I know, I know hooked already.... So what are you waiting for?
